Driveway & Patio layers Wakefield

A beautiful driveway can sometimes be the ultimate finishing touch when taking in the frontal view of your property. Likewise, a fantastic patio at the back of your home can transform your garden into an incredible space to relax, have BBQs, parties and more!

If you’re interested in a new driveway or patio, it’s likely that there is already something there that you want to change. Whether it’s a time-worn, full of weeds, the flags have cracked and so on, the first step is always to take things back to square one. From there, we will work with you to finalise your ideal driveway/patio.

The process begins with measuring up and so forth to determine the amount of materials needed to get the finish line.

Choose the type of finish for your new driveway or patio, then we set about buying the materials for you.

When leading off from ‘square one’, it normally involves prepping the surface (mud/clay) ready for the layer above, with sand, cement, or crushed hardcore. Once this layer is finished and pressed, the laying of the product can begin. We normally lay the materials in a pattern so to give the finished drive an aesthetically pleasing appeal, and seal the joints with the appropriate sealant. If you’re opting for a patio at the rear of the property, you might also consider other features to go alongside your new patio. People tend to pair patios with decking, or artificial grass for example, to truly finalise that new space, and make it ready for those summer BBQs.

Types of driveways and patios we lay

There are multiple ways to finish a driveway or patio, for example:

  • Block Paving is cost effective, durable and traditional. It is one of the most common ways to construct a driveway.

  • Tegular Paving is on-trend, rustic and hard wearing. The tumbled effect gives a fantastic finish when sealed with sharp sand.

  • Indian Stone patios are a sight to behold and have a wonderful natural look. When pointed up with a sealant, the finish is hard to beat.

  • Concrete Paving Slabs can be distinctive and visually appealing, and come in a variety of colours and finish-types. Concrete doesn’t have to look like old flags!

  • Resin-Bound driveways are becoming more popular. They are appealing and flexible, and have a wide variety of colours available for the finished product.

  • Tarmac finish is the most cost-effective type of driveway. It is the best choice if on a budget, and can look smooth and crisp when laid correctly.

This is not an exhaustive list of all the types of driveways one can have, but a good indicator of the most common choices.
