Double story building in Wakefield
How are we all after having time off for Christmas?
We at CG Building Services had a quiet one but we were all happy to have the rest after a very busy year, but as they say the devil makes work for idle hands… So with that it mind, we started a great double story building in St. John’s, Wakefield at the beginning of January.
We had to demolish a garage and move a gas main before we got going properly, but we got it all sorted out in a couple of days.
Next, we set it all out, laid the foundation course, built it up to damp course and then laid the dpc. Then we cut pockets out for the joists in the house and fixed them in place.
We have been walling bricks now for the best part of a month battling against the horrendously cold winter weather. In these conditions, we begin covering all our materials up when we finish work for the night, which includes the cement, the sand, water, and the brickwork itself. All of these things can freeze and spoil, so we have to he vigilant with the materials as not only can our existing work be ruined, but further work can become delayed for a few days.
As of tomorrow, we will finish the job up to pan height and get the roof spars in position, and get it ’tiled in’, making it water tight so we can keep more of that pesky winter weather out.
If we were just building the extension alone, it would have been a relatively routine bit of building work, however our clients existing roof is sagging and needs fixing, complicating matters a bit.
Once we are done tomorrow, our next job is to order the steel and work in the customers loft, propping and shoring it up to the structural engineers specifications.
It’s going to be a cramped job for the next week but at least we will be indoors! While
we are working in the existing roofspace, the other tradesman can come in and do their first fixings ready for when the plasterers arrive.
