New job alert!
The month of September is here, the days are getting shorter, but the last remnants of sunshine and humidity are still with us. We have yet to change from shorts to trousers, in other words.
The extension we are currently building is in Rothwell, a great little town to live in. It’s a single story extension with a great set of bifold doors flanked by two tall windows spanning the length of the build looking out into the garden.
Around the side, the job incorporates an existing pantry in an L shape if you can imagine. This part of the build then continues up another story. It’s essentially a large single story extension with an additional single bedroom upstairs.
There’s still plenty of work left to do on the job, but we’ve reached a good stage in the build. Next week, all the pieces of steel will be being delivered, and the services of a hired crane will he required to lift the gargantuan piece of metal over the house and into place. It’s a solid length that’s over 8 meters long and weighs over a ton. Not a piece to be hand lifting, that’s for sure.
There’s also other elements of steel, connecting pieces, bracings and other additional heavy objects to maneuver. It’s all part of the process and needs to be done though, and its all made possible by precision, a bit of brute strength and lots of clever machinery.
After that bit comes the fun part, demolishing everything under the steel with a big hammer. When I do it, I pretend that I’m Thor, from the Norse Pantheon, who wields his mighty hammer, Mjolnir, in the name of justice.
My hammer is called MC Hammer (the MC stands for Main Contractor).
