NEW JOB ALERT PART DEUX
I’m writing to you today, dear reader, from the top of a scaffolding looking out over rolling hills and farmland between Rothwell and East Ardsley. It’s something that doesn’t get enough notice with working in construction. Lots of folk spend their 9 to 5 in an office, or just indoors in general. More likely, they’ve been working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic… We’ve been quite lucky to be able to be in the great outdoors and keep working.
We’re currently building the exterior shell of the second storey, same job as last post. The build is going up nicely, we’ve left the current existing garage roof smack bang in the middle of the build, with the intention of keeping the rain out of the still functional garage below. Once the new second storey roof is on and sealed, we can then demolish the old roof (now at floor height) and form the floor out of big substantial joists.
Meanwhile, our joiner is at the rear of the site putting the timber roof on top of the single story extension we previously built. Once the roofer has been and done his work, we can then knock through and lay the floors, install the bifold doors and create the big open space the client is after.
All the while, we’re up on the second story getting that all up to height ready to do the same process over again! One thing that had been a boon to us, or should i say, boom, is the bit of machinery we hired to deliver all the precious materials from the ground floor up to the scaffolding. Not only is this miles more efficient, but it also saves the boys all the aches and pains of going up two ladders with materials on their shoulders.
Everything were doing at the moment is in the name of efficiency and ultimately, finishing jobs quicker. This way, the disruption is lessened over all and money is saved by the client.
