The monster extension (part3)

The monster extension

The monster extension (part3) Winter is coming, so it’s time to get busy. When building an extension, if the temperature it too low outside you cannot build! Below zero is no Bueno, so we must make hay while the sun shines.

This big double story extension in loft house is coming to a close in the next few weeks, we are back down on ground level building another extension at the front of the property, bringing the front of garage (or rather, what used to be the garage) a meter out to make the space just a little bit bigger for our client. That room is being transformed into an office space for the quality work from home experience.

We first went about demolishing the existing porch and roof, which wasn’t all that difficult. It was two dwarf walls jutting out of the property with wooden trellising supporting the lean-to roof. Once the wooden struts came out, it was light work to remove the roof and then the small walls were obliterated with a sledge hammer.

We then went on to dig the footings out in preparation for the build. We dug down to a standard depth and then mass filled the hole with the finest concrete. Then, Bob is indeed your uncle, and building can begin once again.

Currently we are three course of brickwork off completing this extension, and once the last brick is laid perhaps we will treat ourselves to a nice cold can of pop.

Luckily for us, our next job is not too far away, in time and in proximity; in a strange turn of fortuitous events, we’re actually working on the next door neighbours property immediately after this.

In fact, the excavation and preparation for this extension is going on as I write this blog post, dear reader.

It will not belong before the whole process begins anew and the wheels of construction turn once again. Hopefully, the winter will be mild and allow for work to progress in an orderly fashion. Also, hopefully the looming spectre of OMICRON COVID proves to be not as bad as the papers are making out, but tune in to the next blog post to see if we’re all locked down again and see if we have finished the monster extension
