Recently at CG, we’ve been constructing a stand-alone garage on the grounds of bungalow in Stanley, Wakefield. The weather has been against us the past few weeks once again. The unseasonable May showers have forced us to take shelter more than a handful of times, but we persevered. It takes more than a bit of spring hailstone to send us packing.
The build itself however, mercifully, has been very straightforward and painless despite the adverse conditions. Plenty of space to get our ducks in a row, materials close at hand for loading up and mixing mortar, and heaps of room around the project to walk around with nothing to trip up over.
The only slight negative was the back wall of the build, which was nestled nicely between two large conifers, meaning that the materials had to be passed through the bushes like a surreptitious neighbour handing you something through the hedge.
Another delight on this job has been the abundance of nature on the property. It’s near a small farm sort of place, with plenty of horses roaming in view. Speaking of roaming, there is also a wild pack of ducks. Their ring leader, the alpha duck ‘El Diablo’ has developed the habit of sneaking up on us while we’re working, with a bloodlust in his eyes. One brandish of the shovel deters this fowl bird, but not for long. It wasn’t until we reached scaffold height that we could escape this honking feathered fury.

Happily now we have just finished erecting the roof trusses and built the cut-up, so the next stage is the roof, followed by the electrics and so forth. The garage itself also needs a completely smooth concrete floor finish. This will provide our client with a fantastic space for storage, work shopping and if they chose, a place to store their vehicle.
Hopefully the tradesmen to come after us can contend with the were-duck of Stanley.
However, we won’t be warning them
