As a wise Yorkshire based poet once said, “Summer is here and it’s absolutely buzzing. Have a can of diet coke and get the trowel moving.” Or something along those lines
The change in weather has been absolutely fantastic, the sun cream has been fished out of the man drawer and spirits are high.
Were currently working in Stanley on a single story extension to the rear of a property. It’s a lovely bungalow on a fine cul de sac, a property that had real potential. Alongside our client, we are now beginning to see that potential being fulfilled.
The project began with an extension being built at the rear, alongside a previous extension that had been built long before. Our new extension currently has space for bifold doors that lead to the garden and window space. The old set of doors that used to lead out before the extension was created was blocked up to waist height and an opening for a large window was left.
Then came lots of demolition. The existing wall that now separated the old extension from the new extension had to come down, opening the space up massively.
We then had to take down the old bitumen-lined flat roof and let all the sun shine in. Once we’d built the vast cut up, we could then build the traditional timber roof working alongside the carpenter.
The most enjoyable part of the job so far has to be filling the skip, hands down. There’s nothing more life affirming than firing tonnes of rubble, wood and insulation into a maxi skip on a 27 degree day. The joy we feel when the wheelbarrow travels down the stairs, then through the garage, then down the steep drive to the skip… There’s nothing finer. Makes you happy to be a tradesman! I just wish there was more old insulation to remove, on every job!
