Wakefield extension
Good morning and how are we all doing today? Steady away, I’m sure of it!
I’m currently writing to you from the dust office, aka, on site. The extension in question is on Horbury Road between Wakefield city centre and Lupset. A tube of Pringles is looking at me imploringly. Perhaps after I finish this blog, I might sample a delicious crispy bite or two.
It has reached the stage of the job where the vast majority of structural work is done. The outer shell is all finished, the roof is on and we’re all happy here. The extension has been build out of block-work entirely, with the expectation of it being rendered completely before the end of the month.
Cut to two builders on the inside of the job, with the radio tuned into Planet Rock.
We are currently building a monolithic pillar of concrete blocks that are going to support a sizeable RSJ.
In this instance, the big old steel is being trisected, and bolted together after the fact. This is primarily due to getting the steel into position in the extension.
The upstairs wall that used to be the exterior of the abode is being held up by acros and pins, and due to their numerousness and positioning, it’s unfeasible to get the steel into the job in one piece.
When the steel erectors do this, it doesn’t lose any significant amount of structural integrity, and is ideal for situations like this where the piece cannot go in whole.
Once this steel is installed, we then can go about the triumphant business of removing the acros and opening the client’s newly built space up fully.
After this comes the time honoured tradition of getting the bifold doors installed, and getting all the rest of the merry band of tradesmen in to do their part. Huzzah!
